spotlight with dimming
2012

Light Miles is painting installation with a spotlight projected on the painting. The painting is made on the ground with wet paint as gravity is made visible by the pulls pool of wet paint sitting onto the canvas while a spotlight is vertically projected on it to create an impression of light in a landscape. Varying light intensities projected are programmed to simulate sunshine and sunshades of daylight.

I am interested in using the spotlight to denote a theatrical sense of the still. I hope to bring about the sense of mystery by which light and paint evoke a spatial sense of time- time of a different sort, time of an imaginary quality that travels amongst material realities, perceptual realities, image realities etc…

Light Miles was first exhibited in the Singapore Platform at Art Stage Singapore in 2012. The group exhibition titled Island Allegories was curated by Dr Charles Merewether. It was exhibited at Pearllam gallery in Shanghai later that year. The group exhibition titled Fictional Recoveries was curated by David Chan. It was also exhibited at Osage Gallery in Hong Kong.
