Drawing Cabinet in 2016 hopes to look at some contexts and pretexts like policy-making and other recent historical conditions surrounding how some of my drawings and painting are directly and indirectly informed, influenced and developed. This work includes some historical quotes and reading materials from the 1950s nation-building period of Singapore, to recent times commenting on issues about art, culture and historical formations of the country - Quotes are taken from Ministers of Singapore from the 1950s to present, which includes Mr Inche Othman Wok, Mr George Yeo, PM Lee Hisen Loong, the late Minister Mentor Lee Kwan Yew, and Mr Ong Pang Boon.
Drawing Cabinet in 2016 is an updated version of the Drawing Cabinet which was first presented as part of a solo exhibition in 2007 at the National Museum of Singapore.
Drawing Cabinet in 2016 was exhibited in about exhibition, Mapping Macrocosms was a 3-persons exhibition held at the school of Art, Design and Media (ADM) gallery in Nanyang Technological University (NTU) from 21 Oct 2016 till 27 Jan 2017. The exhibition presents three different perspectives of the geographical worlds of NG Joon Kiat, Tawatchai Puntusawasdi and Philip Beesley. Curated by Michelle Ho.
