Garden City
An experience of landscape painting in contemporary painting

Garden City is the title of Joon Kiat's third solo exhibition. This solo exhibition uses painting to question for defining ideas of landscape in Singapore.

In Garden City Joon Kiat explore applications of painting vocabularies he discovered in his second solo exhibition. He dealt specifically with exploring firstly, tactile paint and secondly, traces of illusionistic spaces referenced from landscape paintings in Chinese and Euramerican Art Histories. He is interested in looking at conceptual contrasts in these paintings for example the demarcating of spaces in tactile pigment in contrast with the fleeing and atmospheric spaces in landscape painting, histories in contrast with the imaginative making of the present, material in contrast with visual illusion, etc ...
